The Knowledge to Action Foundation raises over £30,000 for charity on the first of four Flying Trader missions!

Sponsored by ETX Capital, this annual event raises money for children's charities, Barnardo's and The Ubuntu Education Fund.

Over £30,000 raised for charity on the first of four Flying Trader missions!

After attending an Ubuntu charity gala dinner last year, Greg Secker was inspired to make a difference to children in need, noting that he wanted to help the children of Ubuntu in South Africa but also a charity close to his heart, Barnardo's. Greg's own grandmother was orphaned when her parents died of consumption. She was taken in by Doctor Barnardo and cared for. Without this care, Greg jokes that he may not even be here today!

Combining his two passions, trading the currency markets and flying helicopters, he came up with the novel idea to fly over London while trading from the cockpit at 1500 feet - and so The Flying Trader™ was born. Encouraging Knowledge to Action clients to participate, Greg streamed his trades to the Flying Trader website where over 250 people followed his trade calls and traded simultaneously from around the world. Whilst flying high over Canary Wharf, Greg traded his own account for charity making over 2.5% in the session and potentially setting a new Guinness World Record for the world's highest currency trade.

Knowledge to Action trading

The Knowledge to Action training centre was also abuzz with activity as over 50 traders came to trade live in an 8 hour marathon trading day. Assisted by expert trader coaches the group followed Greg's live trade calls as he flew over London. They enjoyed an active morning session and were treated to visits from representatives from both Barnardo's and Ubuntu. Sponsored by ETX Capital, all the brokerage commissions generated on the day went to charity. With over '£30,000 raised, the day was a resounding success!

Ubuntu's Early Childhood Development (ECD) program in Port ElizabethThe proceeds from Knowledge to Action Foundation's Flying Trader project will directly benefit Ubuntu's Early Childhood Development (ECD) program in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Providing interventions both at home and within Ubuntu's new health and education complex, the ECD program will prepare 100 orphaned and vulnerable children for a healthy and happy journey toward primary school. This initiative will engage the young minds of children in the townships so that they are given the social and intellectual foundation for future success - academically and emotionally.

One third of all UK's children live in poverty. Barnardo's helps children that may have a disability or a learning difficulty, or those who may have been sexually abused or been the victim of domestic violence. They understand that what happens in childhood can affect an individual for the rest of their lives. They work to break this cycle. Barnardo's believes one of the keys to lifting a young person out of a childhood of poverty, abuse or social exclusion is an education. As Doctor Barnardo said in 1867: "Education and training is at the heart of every child's future".

"I am thrilled that The Knowledge to Action Foundation will be funding Barnardo's Works, an incredibly successful vocational training programme that helps get the UK's most underprivileged children into work. Knowledge to Action's donations will help our most vulnerable children go onto lead independent lives, free of poverty. They'll be building their self-esteem, daring to believe the future can be better. With vital funding our young people will earn life changing qualifications, on the job training and paid work experience. By teaching people to trade with Flying Trader, education and training is at the very heart of Greg Secker's fundraising campaign. This is a perfect fit for Barnardo's as of two thirds of Barnardo's work centres around education," said Lucy Norris, Corporate Development Manager, Barnardo's.

The Knowledge to Action Foundation will be holding three further Flying Trader days over the summer months: 22nd July, 2nd Aug and 19th Aug.
