Asset management key to capital market success
In its response to the interim report of the Kay Review, the IMA noted that the vital role of stewardship in the asset management sector was right to be highlighted.
The asset management industry is hugely important when it comes to the successful functioning of the capital markets, according to the Investment Management Association (IMA).
IMA also believes there is an important amount of interaction between asset managers and their clients, which allow an investors personal preferences to be taken into account before shares are purchased.
Liz Murrall, IMA director of corporate governance and reporting, said: "The interim report raises a good many important issues about the operation of capital markets and the importance of good stewardship.
"IMA members have demonstrated their commitment to stewardship by signing up to the Stewardship Code, and by their increasing levels of activity."
She added that the report's suggestion that capital markets should be used primarily to serve the interests of investors and issuers was an important one.
Good stewardship has become increasingly important as the eurozone crisis takes its toll on the markets and investors have warned indebted countries like Greece of the dangers pulling out of the single currency may pose.
